The SRA is satisfied that none of the purposes set out in regulation 7 of the SRA Authorisation of Individuals Regulations, or the regulatory objectives contained in the Legal Services Act 2007 and the principles governing regulatory activities in section 28 of that Act, make it necessary in the interests of the public to impose any practising certificate conditions.

Decision - Approval denied

Outcome: Refusal to grant PC/Registration

Outcome date: 2 November 2023

Published date: 12 March 2024

Firm details

Firm or organisation at time of matters giving rise to outcome

Name: Rashid & Rashid Law Firm

Address(es): 190 MERTON HIGH STREET, SOUTH WIMBLEDON, LONDON SW19 1AX

Firm ID: 537264

Outcome details

This outcome was reached by SRA decision.

Decision details

The SRA has decided that it is in the public interest not to grant Mr Khan, who is a solicitor, a practising certificate for 2023/2024.

Reasons/basis

On 31 July 2023, the SRA intervened into Mr Khan's law firm because it had reason to suspect dishonesty. The reason was that in May 2023, Mr Khan was recorded by reporters from the Daily Mail. It appeared from the recordings that Mr Khan led a person posing as an illegal immigrant to believe that he would, upon receiving payment, apply to the Home Office for residence that would be inaccurate, misleading and without merit.

Without prejudice to any other matters or issues, Mr Khan's application for a practising certificate for the practice year 2023/2024 has been refused.

Mr Khan's conduct poses a risk to the public interest and the trust the public places in the provision of legal services.

This decision is made having regard to the regulatory objectives contained in the Legal Services Act 2007 and the regulatory arrangements of the SRA.

SRA Authorisation of Individual Regulations
Regulation 7

If the SRA considers it to be in the public interest to do so, it must:

  1. refuse your application for a practising certificate, or your application for registration or renewal of registration, in the register of European lawyers or the register of foreign lawyers.
