Shakeel Abbas engaged in conduct which was discreditable to a barrister, contrary to paragraph 301(a)(i) of the Code of Conduct, in that, on the 12th day of July 2009, he committed Affray, contrary to section 3 of the Public Order Act 1986, for which he was convicted upon his own admission at the Crown Court at Stafford on the 24th day of January 2011 and sentenced to a term of imprisonment of 10 months.
Shakeel Abbas failed to respond promptly to requests from the Bar Standards Board for comments or information on a complaint, in that he failed to respond to letters sent to him by the Bar Standards Board dated the 5th of July 2011, the 11th of July 2011 and the 29th of July 2011 and that failure was serious due to its combination with a failure to comply with another provision of the Code (being the subject of charge 1 of this charge sheet).
