Allerton & Gladstone Ltd have been granted permission under Section 41 of the Solicitors Act 1974 to employ Aurang Khattak as a “Administrative Support Clerk” subject to the following conditions:

  1. Mr Khattak’s work will be directly supervised by Mrs Efzana Murtaza. In the event Mrs Murtaza is absent, Mr Khattak will be supervised by Mr Saifur Rehman
  2. Mr Khattak’s employment is limited to that described in the approval of employment application received on 30 October 2021, the letter signed by Mrs Murtaza, dated 29 October 20021 and Mrs Murtaza’s email, dated 29 January 2022.
  3. Mr Khattak’s supervision is as per that described in the approval of employment application, received on 30 October 2021, the letter signed by Mrs Murtaza, dated 29 October 20021 and Mrs Murtaza’s email, dated 29 January 2022.
  4. Mr Khattak does not hold, receive or have access to client money, or act as a signatory to any client or office account, or have the power to authorise electronic transfers from any client or office account.
  5. Mr Khattak will not deal with any conveyancing transactions or transactions involving mortgages.
  6. Mr Khattak will not have direct contact with clients.    
  7. Mr Khattak will not be responsible for supervising any other member of staff.
  8. Any proposed variation to Mr Khattak’s job description, duties, or arrangements as to his supervision are notified to the SRA in advance of the change taking place and that the variation must not take place until permission is granted by the SRA.
  9. This approval will lapse if Mr Khattak’s employment with the firm is terminated.
  10. This approval and the conditions attached to it are subject to review at the absolute discretion of the SRA.
Reasons/basis

Mr Khattak was struck of the roll of solicitors on 25 July 2012. In accordance with Section 41 of the Solicitors Act 1974, any solicitor wishing to employ or remunerate him in connection with their practise as a solicitor must obtain the SRA’s approval. The SRA is satisfied that the above employment will not put public confidence in the administration of justice and the provision of legal services or the interests of clients at risk.

  3. Mr Khattak does not hold, receive or have access to client money, or act as a signatory to any client or office account, or have the power to authorise electronic transfers from any client or office account.
  4. Mr Khattak is not to hold himself out as a solicitor. Mr Khattak's status as a non-solicitor must be made clear to clients.
  5. Mr Khattak's name does not appear on the firm's headed notepaper, publicity material, website or external nameplates.
  6. Mr Khattak shall not supervise any other employee at ASR Legal.
  7. The SRA is immediately informed of any proposed variation in Mr Khattak's duties or his supervision arrangements, prior to any such variation.
  8. This approval and the conditions attached to it are subject to review at the absolute discretion of the SRA.
