Decision details

On 28 July 2016 Derbyshire & England LLP were granted permission under Section 41 of the Solicitors Act 1974 to employ Jeremy Wolff, subject to a condition that any variation to the terms of his employment or his supervision arrangements must be notified to the SRA prior to that variation taking place.

On 18 February 2022, England & Derbyshire LLP applied to vary Mr Wolff’s supervisors. This application has been approved subject to the following conditions:

  1. Mr Wolff’s work will be directly supervised by Miss Madeleine Jones (SRA number 580835) and in Miss Jones’ absence by Mr Daniel Bentley (SRA number 632202).
  2. Mr Wolff’s work is limited to that described in the employment questionnaire dated 15 June 2016.
  3. Mr Wolff is not to hold himself out as a solicitor.
  4. Mr Wolff will not have his own caseload. His status as non-solicitor must be made clear to clients.
  5. Mr Wolff’s name does not appear on the firm’s headed notepaper, publicity material, website or external nameplates.
  6. Mr Wolff shall not supervise any other employee at England & Derbyshire LLP.
  7. Mr Wolff shall not hold, receive or have any responsibility for client money.
  8. Mr Wolff is not an authorised signatory to any client or office account cheque and does not have the power to authorise electronic payments or transfers from any client or office account.

The SRA is immediately informed of any proposed variation in Mr Wolff’s duties or his supervision arrangements

Reasons/basis

Jeremy Wolff was struck off the roll of solicitors on 30 March 2007. In accordance with Section 41 of the Solicitors Act 1974, any solicitor wishing to employ or remunerate him in connection with their practise as a solicitor must obtain the SRA’s approval.

The SRA is satisfied that the above employment will not put public confidence in the administration of justice and the provision of legal services or the interests of clients at risk.
