Decision details

Atherton Godfrey LLP have been granted permission under Section 43 of the Solicitors Act 1974 to employ Lesley Dixon as a New Work team member, under Section 43(2)(a) of the Solicitors Act 1974, subject to the following conditions:

1. The responsibility for ensuring that Ms Dixon’s work is appropriately supervised, on a day to day basis, will fall to Lyn Shepherd and Shabana Ali.
2. John McQuater will have the overall responsibility for ensuring Ms Dixon is appropriately supervised.
3. This approval is given on the basis of the job description and supervision arrangements outlined in the firm’s emails of 14 and 20 July 2020.
4. Ms Dixon shall not have any responsibility for, or be involved in, the training or supervision of any other employee at Atherton Godfrey LLP.
5. The SRA is immediately informed of any proposed variation in Ms Dixon’s duties or her supervision arrangements, as specified in the firm’s emails of 14 and 20 July 2020. Any variation must not take place until permission is granted by the SRA.
6. This approval does not replace the approval of employment decision made on 23 April 2020 but is effective until such time that the firm are in a position to implement the supervision provisions outlined within it.
7. This approval and the conditions attached to it are subject to review at the absolute discretion of the SRA.

Reasons/basis

Lesley Dixon was made subject to an order under Section 43 of the Solicitors Act 1974 on 10 October 1995. In accordance with Section 43 of the Solicitors Act 1974, any solicitor wishing to employ or remunerate her in connection with their practise as a solicitor must obtain the SRA’s approval. The SRA is satisfied that the above employment will not put public confidence in the administration of justice and the provision of legal services or the interests of clients at risk.
