Disciplinary Record - Martin James Christie

The Declaration in writing dated 21st April 2003 which was made by Martin Christie on Call to the Bar was false in a material respect in that it stated that the declaration dated 26th June 1999 made by Martin Christie on his application to be admitted to the Honourable Society of Gray?s Inn was true and accurate in every respect when he made it whereas it was untrue and inaccurate when he made it because it stated ?Particulars of every conviction for any relevant criminal offence in any part of the world and of all criminal proceedings now pending against me in any part of the world in respect of any relevant criminal offence are annexed to this declaration/ set out in a statement signed by me and dated COPIES ENCLOSED?. There were enclosed particulars of conviction of only four criminal offences and no particulars were given of the other relevant criminal convictions prior to 26th June 1999 which are listed in the print-out annexed hereto from the Police National Computer.

Martin Christie engaged in conduct before Call to the Bar which was dishonest or otherwise discreditable to a barrister and which was not, before Call, disclosed in writing to the Benchers of the Inn calling him, in that at Chester Crown Court on 27th April 2001 he pleaded guilty to an offence of forgery, for which he was given a conditional discharge for two years and ordered to pay costs of ?290 but he did not disclose these facts to the Benchers of the Honourable Society of Gray?s Inn when he was Called to the Bar.
