Blakewells Solicitors Ltd have been granted permission under Section 43 of the Solicitors Act 1974 to employ Mr Shabaz Ahmed as a senior litigation executive, subject to the following conditions:

  1. Mr Ahmed’s work will be directly supervised by Mr Mehfooz Khankara.
  2. Mr Ahmed’s responsibilities at Blakewells Solicitors Ltd are limited to those outlined in the firm’s Section 43 Approval of Employment application of 13 December 2022, including the attached role profile and letter from Steve Roberts of Richard Nelson LLP.
  3. Mr Ahmed’s supervision is as per the details provided in the firm’s Section 43 Approval of Employment application of 13 December 2022, including the attached role profile and letter from Steve Roberts of Richard Nelson LLP.
  4. Mr Ahmed does not have access to any office or client account, is not a signatory to any office or client account and does not have any responsibility for the accounting functions of Blakewells Solicitors Ltd.
  5. Mr Ahmed shall not have any responsibility for or be involved in the training or supervision of any other employee at Blakewells Solicitors Ltd.
  6. The SRA is notified of any proposed variation to Mr Ahmed’s job description, duties or supervision arrangements in advance of it taking place. That variation must not take place until permission is granted by the SRA.
  7. This approval will lapse if Mr Ahmed’s employment with Blakewells Solicitors Ltd is terminated.
  8. This approval and the conditions attached to it are subject to review at the discretion of the SRA.
Reasons/basis

Shabaz Ahmed was made subject to an order under section 43 of the Solicitors Act 1974 on 4 June 2019. In accordance with section 43 of the Solicitors Act 1974, any solicitor wishing to employ or remunerate him in connection with their practise as a solicitor must obtain our approval. The SRA is satisfied that the above employment will not put public confidence in the administration of justice and the provision of legal services or the interests of clients at risk.
