Disciplinary Record - Shay Lotan

Shay Lotan practised as a barrister having failed to complete the outstanding 29 hours of Continuing Professional Development for the New Practitioners Programme and/or return a completed record card by 31 December 2005, contrary to the requirements of paragraph 202(b) of the Code of Conduct and Annex C of the Continuing Professional Development regulations and, having been informed of the need to complete the hours by letter dated 25 April 2006, failed to take the necessary actions to cure the non-compliance.

Shay Lotan, having been given 28 days to pay a financial penalty of ?100 imposed on him on 10 October 2006 in accordance with paragraph 901.1, failed to pay the said financial penalty by the due date of 7 November 2006.

Shay Lotan failed to respond promptly to requests from the Bar Standards Board for comments or information on a complaint, in that he failed to respond to letters sent to him by the Bar Standards Board dated 2 February 2007 and 9 May 2007, such failure being, by virtue of its combination with other failures to comply with the Code (being the failures which are the subject of Charges 1 and 2 above), so serious as to be likely to bring the Bar into disrepute.
